Tribal Development With Digital Literacy in Pudukkottai Tamil Nadu
VLE Lakshmi Sellathurai has been managing the CSC since 2016 at 2694 North Main Street, Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu. She provides services for initiatives like Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan, IRCTC, Passport. Of all services, PMGDISHA is close to Lakshmi’s heart for its transformative power over people. Recounting her experience under PMGDISHA, Lakshmi said, “Once, Najma Begum, a tribal woman had come to my centre for training under PMGDISHA. After completing her training and examination, Najma came back to learn more about computers. She took classes for two more months at my centre. Now, Najma set up her own Internet café and stationery shop. Through CSC, her transformation from housewife to an entrepreneur is really appreciable.”
VLE opines, “Tribal citizens need the benefits of digital inclusion. The tribal clusters need dedicated focus on digital skills and literacy. There is an urgent need for digital means to reach out to the communities with connectivity and access. Digital solutions will facilitate market of tribal products and services.”
The VLE worked hard to build upon her customer base and spread awareness about various Insurance products offered by CSC. Now, she is one of the top performing VLEs in the Insurance sector in her State. Her daily transaction through Insurance and Banking is around Rs. 3 lakh. She has also employed three operators to handle day to day activities. Giving timely service to the customers by clearing their doubts and answering their questions has earned her a good will.
